AdTech Data Engineer
Location: Singapore
Opera is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic AdTech Data Engineer to join our Opera Ads Business Unit and support our next-generation data initiatives.
In this brand-new role, you will have the unique opportunity to shape a new data engineering function from day one. You will work closely with our Ads Engineering and Data Science teams to design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that power Opera’s global advertising ecosystem.
More specifically, your responsibilities will span the development, optimization, and monitoring of large-scale data processing workflows, ensuring high data quality and seamless pipeline performance. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Account Management, and Operations teams to translate business needs into scalable data solutions and continuously improve our internal data capabilities.
You will be responsible primarily for supporting data needs across the Asian market, partnering closely with an established high-performing regional team composed of Sales, Account Managers, and Technical Operations specialists who manage key advertising accounts across Asia.
Your goal will be to work alongside this group and ensure operational excellence by delivering reliable data systems that empower them to meet clients’ business and marketing objectives. Additionally, you will be part of a larger global engineering and data organization distributed across four continents, giving you the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with experts worldwide.

Role & Responsibilities:
- Data Pipeline Development & Optimization: Design, build, test, and maintain scalable data processing tasks across batch and streaming environments using tools such as Spark, Flink, Hive, and HDFS.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Support data-related requirements from Product, Account Management, and Operations teams by delivering timely datasets, insights, and technical solutions.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure smooth execution of data workflows, proactively monitor pipeline health, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to enhance reliability and performance.
- Data Quality & Governance: Contribute to defining and maintaining standards for data validation, data integrity, and documentation across the AdTech data ecosystem.
Job Requirements:
- Strong proficiency in Python, Bash, and SQL for data manipulation and pipeline development
- Experience with Hadoop ecosystem components including HDFS, Spark jobs over Yarn, and Hive
- Hands-on experience with distributed processing frameworks such as Spark and Flink
- Familiarity with data ingestion and streaming tools including Kafka and Flume
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive mindset to ensure high-quality and reliable data delivery
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Open-minded, curious, and comfortable asking questions to clarify business needs and technical requirements
- Strong active listening skills, empathy, and cultural awareness when working with global teams
- Ability to take initiative by proposing process, architecture, or data quality improvements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
Experience working with AdTech, digital advertising, or large-scale data systems - Knowledge of Java or Scala for distributed system development
- Familiarity with ClickHouse or other modern analytical database technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, optimize performance, and deliver scalable solutions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to a global team environment.
