About the job
We are seeking for a System Administrator to work in the Mobile team that is responsible for taking care of the backend services for Opera Mini product, VPN-like proxies and other Opera services, mostly on bare metal machines, that are currently serving more than 200 million users. You will be working in a team of a few system administrators, developers and QAs, with varying levels of experience, handling thousands of machines.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Configuring, upkeep, designing and developing architecture and infrastructure
- Setting up, maintenance and debugging on Operating System, network and application level
- Hardware and software troubleshooting, setting up OS on thousands of machines, handling Debian flavor of Linux
- Writing and modifying small tools, automation of repetitive tasks
Job Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Linux System Administration or similar role
- Strong knowledge and experience in Linux-based IT environments
- Proficiency in networking concepts, protocols, and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, HTTP2, WebSockets, etc.).
- Familiarity with two programming languages
- Strong analytical problem solving skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team

- SQL databases, data replication, MySQL, MariaDB Galera clusters
- system monitoring (Grafana, Nagios, Prometheus, Icinga) administration
- S.M.A.R.T. hardware disk monitoring, IPMI, etc.
- Linux routing, iptables, tcpdump, systemd
- LVS/IPVS clusters, VRRP/keepalived
- Automation via Puppet, Ansible etc.
- Nginx as a web server, load balancer
- SSL/TLS, general encryption mechanisms, secure remote access etc.
